Learn languages
without the cramming

Instead of vocabulary lists and grammar rules, you learn language blocks: short, fixed word combinations that native speakers really use. With real dialogues and gripping stories.

Gabriel Gelman, polyglot and founder of Sprachheld

Hi, I’m Gabriel Gelman, founder of Sprachheld and a polyglot. I speak 6 languages fluently, and over the years I have worked with many language experts.

Along the way I have tried just about every language learning method there is. Now I want to share the one that finally worked for me and for many Sprachheld learners: the Language Block Method.

See how it works

Is learning a language too hard?

Have you been trying to speak your target language for a long time, but it just won’t come?

Do you only understand half of what you hear in films and series?

Do you still translate in your head and need far too long to say what you mean?

Is learning a language boring?

Do you understand nothing when native speakers actually talk to you?

Do new words just never stick?

Is learning grammar rules no fun for you either?

Learn languages in three simple steps…

  1. Step 1 Listen to native speakers

Forget textbooks and stop building sentences from a template. What you need are real conversations between native speakers, also called input (everything you take in in the language). As many as possible. While listening, you build a feel for the language all by yourself and get to know its structure naturally.

  2. Step 2 Spot and learn language blocks

Listening matters, but listening with attention works even better. Look out for patterns that come up again and again: language blocks. Understand their meaning and context, and you can use them right away, without knowing the grammar behind them. Make them stick through repetition, by listening often or with flashcards.

  3. Step 3 Use the language blocks when you speak

In the last step, you practise speaking. Here you use everything you have learned, above all the language blocks. Instead of piecing things together word by word with grammar rules, you speak in language blocks. After a while they will roll off your tongue all by themselves. Speaking has never been this easy!

What our learners say about Sprachheld courses

  • “I like the relaxed way it is presented. The idea of language blocks helps you understand and take in the habits of the foreign language much better. I’m 82 and have been learning French on and off for 70 years. Today it helps me keep the connections in my brain in good shape.”

    Fritz
    French course
  • “I have Spanish and English and find this way of learning or revising ideal. Many common expressions are repeated, so they stay in your memory for good. […] Sprachheld has really put a lot of thought and effort into this, and for me it is in a league of its own. […] I can recommend Sprachheld…”

    Gisela
    English and Spanish course
  • “I think I tried everything that was on offer. […] Only learning with language blocks made it possible for me to have a little conversation in Italian. […] The best thing that could have happened to me. […] 5 stars are not enough!”

    Reinhold
    Italian course
